Background

So, a week or two after Constraint's release, my laptop charger melts completely, voiding my PC privileges, then a few days later my phone suffers a similar fate. We quickly bought a replacement phone, and I started working on the streaming releases that happened September 3rd.
After that whole shebang, I got bored. So bored that I went back to my roots of FL Studio Mobile. I started off using this app back in Winter 2021-2022, and I haven't touched it since. For good reason! But alas, the devil's pitchfork had to be used.

Production

I started experimenting with FLM, and of course, I wanted to make a hardcore track. Enter Bloodied Ice Cubes, a track meant for the scrapped Empyrean EP, which you might've heard of in the story of Constraint.
The first documentation of the track in the making is dated September 10, 2023, at 1am. I was feeling that bedtime push, and now that I had reasons to do stuff in bed, I did.

There's generally not much interesting about the production process of the track. It's simply me learning FLM and finding compromises for things I wanted to do.
However, limitation breeds creativity, and the ability to play what looks like an actual keyboard led me to mess around on it to try compose stuff. Couple that with some instrument from a pack and we have the main melody. Peep a recording from September 11.

A lot of the conventions and quirks used here are something unusual of my style at the time. It's endearing in a way.
What's not endearing is the drop that I had to make after that section. It took me literal days of trying to make it work. Have a snippet for it, dated September 17.

I like some of the ideas presented, like the whole piepy punch thing and its kickrolls, but the entire arrangement and feeling does not cut it. I couldn't make an emotional style of hardcore without it feeling empty.
As such, I rebranded the track to tomorrowcave the next day, so September 18 marks the birth. And it went scarily quick from there:

  • September 18: Setting the stage: change from 200 to 160 BPM, transposing the composition, creating some arrangement, and also dumping the entirety of Bloodied Ice Cubes in the trash. I don't have the project file anymore
  • September 19: Creation of the cover art. The source image is a picture of my pants that morning, edited heavily in a photo editor named.. Photo Editor. And Google's Snapseed. If you liked the art, I'm sorry.
Some unique parts were also created, such as the piano break.

Is it okay to admit that this is my favorite thing I've done on mobile? I like the way it sounds. And I like how it didn't take me 20 years. My mental state at the time might've prevented me from liking any of this, but damn. Retrospectives rock.
Oh, and the same day, I finalized the audio and sent it off to my distributor.
  • September 20: Magic. The release was distributed off to streaming services in 20 hours. That's their best work ever, which led to the release date of September 21. Total project time including BIC is estimated to be 23 hours, maybe 5 of which were tomorrowcave.

Release

I literally can't find anything relevant and related to the release. My photos on the day are literally just art from Pinterest. Guess I went there to destress? Just know it was announced in the Discord at 11:14AM UTC.
Early alpha.zero releases are as remarkable as doing laundry, for a multitude of reasons.

Reception

Some friends liked the track. A classmate at the time  reacted my WhatsApp group message regarding the release. She probably liked the track too.
